I'm a 33 year old artist living with and managing OA. It's been a long road towards regaining my balance, both physically and emotionally, but I believe in the whole "life is a journey" saying.
I married young and had a beautiful baby boy at the age of 20. His father and I divorced when he was three years old. Though it hasn't always been smooth sailing between the dad and I, he and his new wife have been more than flexible and understanding since I had to move back to my hometown of St. Louis. There are few words to describe the kind, easy, and thoughtful relationship the three of us adults have regarding my son. We always try to keep his best interest in mind when planning out the year.
It took me a total of ten years to earn my bachelor's degree in Art Education from the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, IN (I took many breaks between semesters to work). I wanted a schedule that would allow me as much time with my son as possible and in May of 2005, on Mother's Day, I graduated with my seven year old son in the audience to cheer me on. One year after my first teaching job is when I started noticing joint pain. It only got worse with time and eventually my friends convinced me to see a doctor.
This blog is about navigating my life's journey. Sometimes it's pretty, sometimes it's not, but it will always be real and truthful and beautiful.
